Cheesy French Bread

INGREDIENTS

1 loaf French bread
1/2 cup butter
1 medium onion , chopped fine
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
8 ounces swiss cheese

DIRECTIONS

Slice the bread in 1" slices and put a piece of cheese between each slice.I cut the cheese to fit the size of the bread.

Melt the butter and add the chopped onion, poppy seeds and mustard.Pour this over the bread.

Wrap the loaf in foil.

Bake at 425′ for 20 minutes.

French Sugar Cookies

INGREDIENTS

1 1/4 cups sugar
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
1 cup softened butter (unsalted)
1 cup oil
2 eggs (beaten)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
4 cups flour (all purpose)

DIRECTIONS

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.In another small bowl combine the softened butter with the oil, the beaten eggs and vanilla.Incorporate into the dry ingredients.

Refridgerate for 1 Hour.

French Toast for Two

INGREDIENTS

4 slices whole wheat bread
2egg whites
1/2 cup skim milk
1 tablespoon brown sugar
oil (for frying)

DIRECTIONS

Beat the egg whites with the milk and sugar.

Heat a frying pan and grease lightly with oil.

dip both sides of the toasts in batter and fry on both sides.

serve with maple syrup or banana.

French Breakfast Puffs

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons shortening
2 teaspoons shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 egg
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

Cream together the shortening, sugar, and egg.
Combine the flour, salt, baking soda, and nutmeg.
Add the milk to the creamed mixture and mix with the flour mixture.

French Beef Burgundy

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 lbs boneless beef chuck , cut into 1-inch cubes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion , sliced
8 button mushrooms , sliced
1/2 cup fresh parsley , minced (I usually use dried flakes)
3 garlic cloves , minced
2 bay leaves
1 cup Burgundy wine
