INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 lbs shrimp , peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning (optional)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese , shredded
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes

DIRECTIONS

  1. Boil shrimp.Use Old Bay seasoning in water to add additional flavor.3-5 minutes in boiling water is usually plenty of time.Overcooking makes them tough.Set shrimp aside.
  2. Boil 3 cups water.Add grits, reduce heat to medium=low and cover.Cook 5-7 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally.Remove from heat.
  3. Add remaining ingredients to grits and stir to melt cheese.
  4. Dish grits into individual bowls and top with shrimp.
